Thunder Wolf Cavalry Voting
Good afternoon children of the Plague Father and thank you for joining me here today. This post is long overdue but was delayed due to real life issues slowing down the final model being completed. All three wolves have now been posted and now it is time for me to ask all you Nurglings to please vote for which version you prefer so our glorious winner can pick the next model we paint.
To refresh your memories here they are again...
First up is Dorn's Arrow's with his full post found here.
Next is Mighty Simo's offering with his post here.
And lastly is my own Thunder Wolf and my post.
The posts I have linked to continue more pictures of each as I just chose my favourite shot of each. Voting will be at the top of the page for the next few weeks and I thank you all for taking the time to help us decide on a winner.
Until next time may our Lord's dark gaze fall upon you.

Dorn's Arrow's Finished Thunderwolf
Greetings fellow followers of the Plague God. On Friday I finally finished my Thunderwolf (sorry about the delay, its been a very busy couple of weeks).
This was a fantastic opportunity to try out some new techniques (I have never painted that much fur), and just a great chance to paint one of the Sons of Ruus. For the wolf I wanted to base the colours on those on the front of the box, and so went for a striped wolf of greys and browns, with a blend into a khaki highlight to tie the colours together naturally. I also wanted to go with a snowy base and so this was the first model I have tried modelling snow on and am quite pleased with the way the wolf and base go together as though its a natural habitat.
The kit was great with lots of options. Being a Crimson Fists player, there is just something in me which screams "grab the power fist!" So I did. Assembling the kit did take a while as Mighty Simo mentioned in his post, but the resulting pose is really dynamic and there were so many options no one really had to surrender any items they wanted to use.
To paint the marine I followed the tips in a recent white dwarf (with the old paints) although I added a few layers between the basecoat and edge highlight to blend the armour colours a bit more. Adding battle damage was also a first for me, and I am really pleased with the effect.
And one of the reasons I'm so late with the Thunderwolf is that I was halfway through another batch of 5 Stormvermin for the Tale of X Gamers. So there they are. On other news, its my birthday today, and my girlfriend bought me the 'How to Paint Citadel Miniatures' book and DVD, so I'm very pleased (and impressed) and am about to crack on with some more slave rats for my list. So until next time, let the father's blessings of filth be with you all.

O'Shashar's Finished Thunderwolf
The model had a nice amount of parts while not being quite as intense a build as my Necrons have been lately so was a nice change of pace, though I am disappointed the head came in multiple parts as left quite a clear triangle on the face of my wolf. I tried liquid greenstuff on it but still shows through a little.
The armour I started with Vallejo black grey followed by a black wash and highlights with German grey however these don't appear to have shown up very well in the photos. The metal trim was done using a base of beastial brown followed by a 2:1 mix of Tin Bitz and Vallejo Brass. The Yellow shoulder was done with foundation yellow built up to Bad Moonz Yellow, while the red was Burnt Cadre Red built up to Flat Red both were given a black freehand symbol ( which for my first try at freehand I don't think well too badly). The bone tailismans were built up from snake bite leather to rotting flesh and then given a sepia wash.
I decided to go for a white wolf to balance out the dark armour, I did this using foundation granite, beastial brown, rotting flesh, a sepia wash then a second pass with rotting flesh. I did try to use ivory but this was too white for my tastes. The metal sections I did in the same way as the marine to tie them together.
As I have no plans to play Space Wolves I decided to give my wolf a rocky base which I carved out of a piece of high density pink foam. I started painting it with Fenris Blue followed by Space Wolves Grey, Codex Grey and a final pass with Fortress Grey.
Until next time keep spreading his plagues and poxs to all you encounter.

Mighty Simo's Thunderwolf Completed
Hello and good afternoon to you all. As you may remember on 9th May we celebrated our first birthday here at Cupboard of Nurgle. Earlier this month we said we would celebrate with a single model painting challenge. Seeing as I got the most votes for our Nurgle Lord painting competition I had the honor of choosing the model we would paint. After some thought and some whispering in my ear by Dorn's Arrow I chose the recently released Thunderwolf Cavalry.
For the All Father! |
If you would like to know how to paint your Thunderwolf Cavalry like this pick yourself up a copy of White Dwarf issue 387. I basically followed the painting guide in there. The only change I did was on the Space Wolf armor. The guide suggests a wash of Devlin Mud after the basecoat and then layering the basecoat. Instead I started with shadow grey, layers with a 50/50 mix of Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey. I then highlighted with pure Space Wolves Grey followed by a 50/50 mix of bleached bone and Space Wolves Grey.
I don't think I would fancy seeing this in front of me. |
O'Shashar and Dorn's Arrow should have their Thunderwolves posted up in the next few days and we welcome our faithful followers to send in pictures of their Thunderwolves. We will then have a vote to see who has the best painted model.
That's all I have for you this week our follower minions of Nurgle. However, on one of my earlier posts I mentioned that I have another five of my Night Goblins done, which I hope to share with you all soon. May Nurgle's blessings fall upon you.

Single Model Painting Challenge - Thunder Wolf Cavalry
Good evening children of the plague father and thank you for joining us once again in our corner of the warp. Following on from my last post which mentioned we were planning to start single model painting challenge on a regular basis ( better ideas for the name are welcome ).
The model we have chosen this time is the Games Workshop Thunder Wolf Cavalry so this will give us similar models to work with but they won't be identical due to the pack being made up of three different wolves and riders.
We now all have our models assembled and I managed to prime my own yesterday along with my three Crypteks in between the lovely April showers it is time to put a time frame to be finished by.
After speaking with my fellow bloggers we have decided that May the 9th should be the end of the challenge as is the Cupboard of Nurgle's first birthday which isn't bad for a blog we only started because Mighty Simo said we really should have a blog if we were going to Blogwars.
Until next time continue to drink deeply from the cauldron of pestilence.

The Drawing Of Our Third And Final Winner
![]() |
Remember him fondly as I will not be using this stock image for as long as I can help it |
Good evening children of the Plague Father and thank you for joining us for the unveiling of our final winner. I apologise that this is later than I had planned to post our final winner. As Mighty Simo's and my own Nurgle Lords have found new homes, our winner today will be able to choose between the example put forward by Dorn's Arrow or a brand new one if they prefer.

Nurgley goodness galore |
So once again I return to the darkest recesses of Nurgle's kitchen to "borrow" his favourite hat to make sure his influence helps us get our winner. Without further ado I present to you...

Seen here fighting it's mortal enemy the donut |
HOTpanda
Well done to HOTpanda, for those of you unfamiliar with this particular breed of bear let me tell you a tale. Some say that HOTpandas live on the fringes of society as it is only there they can defend this doomed world from the evil sentient donuts who wish to turn man kind into slaves in their batter mines.
Occasionally allying with a whole host of robotic war machines these mighty beasts are all that stands between us and cold greasy whip of the donut overlords. If you would like to aid in their fight you can find them in the Chaos corrupted Bamboo forests.
With this our give away comes to a close and I would thank all of those that voted and hope our new followers return to see our offerings to Papa Nurgle.

Time To Announce Our Second Winner
Good evening explorers of the lonesome warp and welcome to our corner of the garden. Wednesday has rolled around again and it is time to announce our second winner of the Nurgle Lord of Chaos model.
As I did last week I have picked the name of one our followers out of a hat as is the tradition and our lucky winner this week is...
Nasty looking bleeder he is |
Dalinair
A big congratulations to Dalinair from The 40k Project who played the odds and gave us a shout out for competition to secure a cheeky second entry. I can reveal he is in fact not a Trygon but his profile picture was of a different hive fleet so I thought his latest painted monster did him more justice. Looking at his latest posts there does looks to be more to come in the near future so worth checking in on if you like uncompromising nightmarish creatures and their painted Tyranids.
That is two winners drawn which means next Wednesday is our last draw and the last time I use the stock picture of the Nurgle Lord I give you my word.
Until next time keep doing Nurgle's work and you too will be blessed by our generous patron.

The Results Are In And We Have Our First Winner!
Good evening children of the Plague Father and thank you for joining us once again to see the results of our painting competition and who is our first winner. To help build up the suspense of who is getting a freebie I will announce the painting competition results first.
In third place with 18% of the votes is Dorn's Arrow
In second place is myself with 25% of the votes
Which leaves Mighty Simo to claim first place with 56% of the vote.
Mighty Simo's winning model |
However this is the news I am sure you are more interested in hearing and it is who has first choice of the three models on offer. With the help of my darling wife I have used a highly scientific follower selection method ( names out of a hat ) and our first winner is...

Dorn's Arrow's Finished Chaos Nurgle Lord (and whats that on the horizon?)

Hi there followers of the pestilent one, I finally have photos of my completed Nurgle Lord.
Although I was the first to finish painting the model, my lack of decent photos means that my post is somewhat belated. What I wanted to get out of this competition was to try out some new skills. The armour is where I have practised my first use of blending. I wanted to achieve a death guard type light green colour and am very happy with the result. I got this colour by using a foundation of fortress grey, followed by a couple of washes of catachen green. I then glazed adeptus battlegrey with a tiny amount of enchanted blue over the armour. After this I used a couple of layers of watered down gretchen green, pulling the brush away from the recessed areas and towards the raised areas. I repeated this step, gradually adding in rotten flesh and leaving part of the previous colour showing.
This model was a joy to paint, with no real fiddly or hard to get to areas, and I think it may inspire me to start my own warriors of chaos army. My obsessive compulsive nature is going to make it hard to let go of this model, and I may have to instead award the winner of my model with a brand new boxed version as this plague fiend whispers to me from my shelf. As for now, I have just completed painting my Heldenhammer from the Dreadfleet set... it took me much longer than expected as it is such a detailed model. Here is a rough photo from my phone:
My next project is to paint the Bloody Reaver so that the pirate battles can commence! Until next time...

O'Shashar's Finished Chaos Nurgle Lord
Good evening followers of Nurgle and welcome back to our pestilent domain. The time of reckoning is drawing closer and soon the voting will commence on which Nurgle Lord our followers find the most repugnant.
The final day for us to finish painting is the 29th at which point I will put a poll up for you to cast your vote for your favourite. Now you have all seen Mighty Simo's and I hear he is venturing into the dank dungeon that holds the shambling horror that is Dorn's Arrow to give his model a glamorous photo shoot for your twisted pleasure.
However this post is about neither of my fellow pawns in Papa Nurgle's games and is about my contribution to our competition. So without further ado here is my Nurgle Lord of Chaos in all his filthy glory.
As you can see I have tried to go with how I feel a Nurgle Lord should be rather than the artwork Games Workshop has provided us with. I went for a more rusted look to the armour without taking it to the point that it would crumble to dust if it was struck.
Next up was the skin, I imagine this brute to be constantly at war rather than recently converted, he is a Lord after all and not a freshly formed conscript. So a more advanced stage of decomposition was in order and I thought a green hue leant itself well to this.
The horn and skulls I tried to give a dirty appearance to as he doesn't strike me as the kind of chap who would take the time to boil the flesh off and bleach his trophies so much as throw it on his belt until all that remained was the bone.
With his loin cloth I went for purple to compliment the green while making sure it was suitably filthy while still covering his modesty.
I tried to keep the base simple as he is a rather large model for the base size he is on so rather than try to over crowd it I just picked out the rocks in a grey tone while giving the ground a muddy appearance as don't imagine much grass would survive his march.
Overall I really enjoyed painting this model and hope who ever becomes his new owner takes care of the ugly little monster.
The draw for the winner isn't far away but if you haven't entered already all you need to do is follow this blog for a chance. Also if you want an extra crack at the prize just link to the original post found here and post in the comments.
Until next time keep spreading his plague so all can enjoy his blessings.

Nurgle Lord Complete

Good afternoon fellow plague bearers, many of you may know that a couple of weeks back we reached 50 followers. Myself, Dorn's Arrow and O'Shashar are each painting a Nurgle Lord in a mini competition to commemorate this mile stone. The model was an obvious choice for the theme of our blog.
I have to say I have relished the opportunity to paint the Nurgle Lord. I have taken my inspiration for my paint scheme from the one by the 'Eavy Metal team. I have given it a slight twist and I am overall pleased with the outcome. The amour did not turn out as dark as I wanted and I am still unsure of the bloody pus coming from his belly. Anyway I am sure you all dying to see my Nurgle Lord so here are some pictures below.
If you wish to enter our competition in hope winning mine or my fellow bloggers Nurgle Lord all you have to do is become a follower to get an entry into the prize draw and you can get a 2nd entry if you post about our give away on your own blog linking to our original post. However to try and make it fair you can only win 1 of the 3 models.
I am sure my fellow bloggers will have pictures of their painted Lords soon. Thank you dropping by and remember to spread Nurgle's blessings far and wide.

50th Follower! You Know What That Means...
That is right faithful followers of Papa Nurgle we now have our 50th follower! We thought that this is the perfect time to have a give away to thank all the people who have been following us and to possibly draw in some new faces.
When I discussed this with my fellow bloggers it was quickly decided that it would need to be one of Nurgles minions that was sent out into the wide world as our gift to the faithful. After a long look over what there was to choose from we decided on the new Nurgle Chaos Lord.
![]() |
With the prize sorted we then had to decide who would be the one to paint it ( I suggested Mighty Simo as he does love him some painting ). In the end Dorn's Arrow suggested we paint one each and have the internet vote on their favourite. Now don't worry about the other two, they will not be melted down in shame. They will be given away as well! That's right three chances to win a painted Nurgle Chaos Lord.
So the gauntlet has been thrown down and from tonight we have until the 29th of February to have our model ready to go to the public vote. After a week we will know who paints the most beautiful ( or more likely gruesome ) model between us and then we will randomly pick a follower and let them have their choice of the 3 Lords. After they have claimed their prize we will do it again for second place with the choice of the two remaining and then third place will get which get the remaining model.
Now if you feel that one entry is not enough and that you just know luck is against you I am willing to throw you a second entry in return for posting about our give away on your own blog ( linking to this post ) and then adding a link to your post in the comments below. If you do you will be entered into the draw a second time, however to try and make it fair you can only win 1 of the 3 models.
Until next time keep spreading the world of Papa Nurgle to the masses.
